These days, e-commerce is booming, bringing a new perspective on document exchange between business partners. In the past, this exchange was primarily in “paper” form, but today there is more and more talk about electronic documents. One of the ways to an electronic document is EDI (Electronic Data Interchange). The aim of electronic communication is to replace paper documents by electronic ones to enable full automation of the process of issuing and receiving electronic documents.

A number of large companies in the Czech Republic already use the electronic communication system. The precondition for its implementation was, in particular, the latest amendment to Act No. 235/2004 Coll. about Value added tax. An enormous advantage is, above all, the possibility of using an electronic mark or, electronic signature.

Requirements for successful implementation of EDI communication

  • ABRA Gen IS
  • registration with an EDI solution provider (eg EDITEL, GRiT, O2 etc.) – this will give you a unique EAN code that will identify your business
  • custom EDI software from ABRA Software a.s.

Electronic communication takes place in the EDI INHOUSE data format. Using the EDI solution, you can automatically load orders received directly into the ABRA IS. Additionally, you can send shipping information and invoices to your customers- these operations are user-operated.

The solution includes 3 independent applications (.exe files) – Import of received orders, export of delivery information, export of issued invoices, that are placed at individual workstations. This allows you to decide which employees will have access to import and export of documents to EDI.

The application can load and generate files in INHOUSE text format (XML format is not yet supported). This is a universal format that is supported by all EDI service providers. The application communicates with ABRA IS via the so-called Open Interface. This means, among other things, that when you start importing or exporting, one license is used to access the ABRA Core.

Communication scheme using EDI messages

  1. The costumer sends you an order (ORDERS EDI message)
  2. After loading the order into ABRA you can work with it freely
  3. Issue a delivery note (send a DESADV message) or an invoice (send an INVOIC message)
