CZECH PIANOS, WORLDWIDE SOUND
PETROF, SPOL. S R. O. belongs among the most remarkable European manufacturers of pianos. It currently exports the instruments to over 60 countries throughout the world on 5 continents. The biggest customers include China, Germany, Russia, Japan, Australia, the Czech Republic, but also Taiwan, Hong Kong, and more. In over 148 years of existence, PETROF had manufactured more than 600,000 musical instruments.
THE VERY MANUFACTURE of the instruments underwent huge development across tens of years. The typical nature of the production with a significant share of handwork by highly qualified specialists has remained indispensable to this day. The very manufacture of pianos and important operations are still being performed manually. This is why production operations on state-of-the-art machines are combined with the craft and skill of Czech craftsmen, who provide PETROF instruments with their characteristic properties, the first of which is the typical melodious – noble tone.
WE WANTED TO UNIFY OUR RECORDS IN A SINGLE PLACE AND ABRA G3 HELPED US TO ACHIEVE THIS.
PETROF HISTORY goes back to the year 1864, when Antonín Petrof manufactured the first concert piano in Hradec Králové. In 1883, the company extended its production with smaller pianinos and two years later it established a warehouse and service centre in Vienna, from where it exported instruments abroad.
FROM RECENT HISTORY, let us mention the nationalisation of the factory in 1948, during which the Petrof family lost its property and rights.
IN 2001 the company was returned into the hands of the Petrof family. Zuzana Ceralová Petrofová, who represents the fifth generation, assumed its leadership.
SINCE 2007, all instruments of the PETROF brand have been marked with the new EUROPEAN EXCELLENCE (EEX abbreviation) seal. This guarantees the instrument’s European origin, lengthy service life, professional service and high utility value.
PETROF pianos and pianinos have an original solution to the three basic fields:
- Acoustic area supported by a sounding board, ribs, bridge, scaffold and metal frame
- Mechanism, including the keyboard and mechanics
- Architectural design combined with surface finish
ABRA ALLOWS US TO SOLVE EVERYTHING THROUGH A SINGLE CONTACT. THIS SIMPLIFIES COMMUNICATION AND OUR REQUIREMENTS ARE ALWAYS QUICKLY SETTLED.
IN THE YEARS 2004-2010 the company went through a fierce restructuring, and also the global financial and business crisis. This situation strengthened the company, and it sold unused assets and made significant discharges. It narrowed the production from 10,000 instruments per year (with a turnover of CZK 1 billion with 1,000 employees) to 2,000 self-production instruments (with a turnover of CZK 200 million with 200 employees). However, the PETROF production share in the European market remained intact as a decrease in demand affected all local manufacturers without exception.
AFTER PROPERTY RESTRUCTURING, the company management started focusing its attention on management tools optimisation, unification of heavily fragmented records, accumulation of data from many types of software applications and hardware platform integration.
THE INFORMATION SYSTEM needed to become a means for the unification of management tools. The selection procedure that was implemented was won by ABRA Software with its ERP system ABRA G3.
In the second half of 2010, the implementation of economic modules was started. In 2011, production, warehouses, and business agendas were implemented and the functional system was handed over for full operation.
IN 2012 the delivered works were extended by the optimisation of deployed processes, creation of individualised reports, set up of management tools and outputs and also a special modification of the CRM module.
DESPITE THIS COMPLICATION, the implementation was retrospectively judged as dashing, with minimum impact upon production and sales.
The hard work of five generations of Petrofs not only brings delight to top-class artists and composers, but also to thousands of other music lovers.
Awards, honours, medals and titles reflect the public recognition of the qualities of these instruments. However, the satisfaction of pianists who have chosen a PETROF instrument will always be all-important.
THE YEAR 1864 STARTED the long history of the family run firm of Antonín Petrof, which has been centred on the search for new technologies and methods to ensure a continued increase in the quality of its instruments. ABRA G3 is one of technologies that helps PETROF to fully concentrate on production quality and business.
PETROF is one of the few Czech production companies that has developed from a national firm to become a significant European and global manufacturer.
